Drums Workshops
Koroleko Moussa
Provides comprehensive full-day and half-day drumming workshops designed for participants in schools, festivals, and private events, both within London and in surrounding areas. The workshops are centred around themes of fostering connections and community through the medium of drumming, as well as exploring the profound healing potential of sound through a historical and harmonious lens. Additionally, participants will engage with therapeutic concepts and self-expression facilitated by traditional West African instruments,
such as the Kora, Djembes, Dum dums, Shekere, and Balafon.
The sessions are conducted by Koroleko Moussa, who comes from a lineage of Bwa Bwa Griot storytellers, musicians, and artisans from Burkina Faso and Mali. Having been immersed in this rich musical heritage from an early age by his father and other family members, Koroleko possesses over 25 years of experience as a professional musician, educator, and master craftsman proficient in West African instruments.
Participants can expect the following provisions:
- Appropriately sized Djembes for all attendees
- Each session accommodates approximately 30 participants
- The duration of each session is 45 minutes
Throughout the workshop, Koroleko will present an introduction to the history of several traditional West African instruments that he has meticulously crafted, which includes:
- Kora (African harp)
- Balafon (African xylophone)
- Djembe (drum)
- Doum Doum (African kick drum)
Calabashes workshops
nstruments provided encompass Djembe African Hand Drums, allowing participants to engage in the creation of their own drumming and singing experiences.
The workshop activities encompass:
- Global Rhythm Sampler (10 minutes): Participants acquire short rhythm patterns from three to five distinct cultures.
- Cross-Cultural Ensemble (15–20 minutes): Participants collaborate to amalgamate various cultural rhythms into a unified musical piece.
- Rhythm Stories (10 minutes): The workshop employs rhythm to enhance storytelling, imagination, and personal expression.
